320 The Terrace

320 The Terrace connects Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s Kelburn campus to the city.

April 2024 update

In March 2024, the Wellington City Council recommended that the Independent Hearings Panel recommendation to retain the heritage scheduling of the Gordon Wilson Flats be rejected. While this decision has been referred to the Minister for Review of the Resource Management Act, the University welcomes this opportunity to look at a range of options to redevelop this strategically important site for the benefit of our students, staff, and the people of Wellington as a whole. While the University currently has financial constraints and is still navigating the post-COVID learning, teaching, and research context, we will explore a full range of possibilities, including purpose-built student accommodation, something that was not possible while the Flats retained their heritage status.
