Renowned scholar in healing spaces and landscapes arrives at Victoria University of Wellington

Visiting scholar, Dr Nicole Porter of the University of Nottingham, will be at Victoria University’s School of Architecture from 18th to 20th February.

Dr Porter is an Associate Professor in Architecture and Landscape based in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Nottingham and the author of ‘Landscape and Branding: The Promotion and Production of Space’. She is an expert in several related fields including place branding, place making, landscape values and landscape design for health.

While at the School of Architecture Dr Porter will meet with staff and postgraduate students regarding their research and will give a public lecture on Tuesday 19 February at the School of Architecture at 5.30. The talk is titled: Mindful places: the psychology and design of healing environments.

Dr Porter will discuss how the external physical environment interacts with the internal environment of the mind, and our mind-body experiences and will explore how the spaces and places of our increasingly urbanised world affect human well-being. She will draw from ideas within environmental psychology, as well as theories within built environment design, which inform the work of architects, landscape architects and urban designers.
