About

Kia ora, I’m Emily, I identify as a lesbian, cisgendered female. I grew up in the English countryside and moved to New Zealand with my partner in 2018.

I completed my Masters training in Art Psychotherapy in South Wales, UK in 2017. During my training I worked with adults and young people in hospital and community settings, and with offenders in hospital settings. Since graduating I have worked in a Mental Health Crisis Team and in a Counselling and Psychotherapy service for young people.

I felt privileged to join the Student Counselling team at VUW in 2020. I love helping people to discover or rediscover what inspires and motivates them, to explore their emotions and sense of self, and gain a greater understanding of themselves in order to achieve personal growth and change. I am constantly amazed by the strength, creativity and resilience of the people I work with. I primarily use Art Therapy, Interactive Drawing Therapy (IDT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

In my spare time I like to get out in nature exploring new places to walk, bike and kayak, get creative, and connect with family and friends.
