Congratulations to MBA student Nick Ormrod, who was this year's winner of the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC) Strategy Prize.

Nick was presented with his award by IMC Wellington convenor Phil Guerin at a Victoria Business School-IMC Consulting Forum held in Wellington on 15 October.

IMC introduced this prize in 2012 for the best strategy project by a student on the Victoria MBA programme, and the 2015 winner was a unanimous choice of the judging panel.

Professor of Strategic Management Steve Cummings, who co-presented the award, congratulated Nick on an excellent paper that used models intelligently and thoughtfully, and illustrated an ability to apply the principles of strategic management in a way that is useful and relevant.

The award was judged on the following criteria:

  1. Originality - of presentation content, analysis and application of management theory and tools to the case study.
  2. Coherence - the extent to which the student has applied management theory to produce a coherent analysis.
  3. Clarity - readability, writing style, clarity of conceptual analysis and its application to the case study's conclusions.
  4. Insight - degree to which the student has identified key business issues in the case study, using theoretical analysis tools and techniques.
  5. Potential to execute - degree to which the student's analysis of the case study has applicability in practice (in this problem, and generally as a consulting technique).
