MBA students Francene Wineti (winner) and Martina Hill (runner-up) were this year's winners of the Institute of Management Consultants New Zealand Strategy Prize, presented during a forum held in August.

IMC New Zealand introduced this prize in 2012 for the best strategy project by a student on the Victoria MBA programme, and this year two students were awarded the Strategy Prize due to the very high quality of their work.

Vice-President Ian Abrahams and Victoria MBA Director Dr Arun Elias congratulated the pair on excellent strategy papers that clearly demonstrated an ability to apply the principles of strategic management in the real world.

"As the MBA Director, I feel that our relationship with IMC New Zealand enhances the much needed town-gown relationship for our MBA programme," noted Dr Elias.

Last year’s winner, Janina Panizza attended to congratulate this year’s winners and commented on how much it meant to her personally to receive external recognition that "she can do it".

The IMC New Zealand Forum during August hosted Andrew Tubb and Peter Johnston from IBM Global Consulting Services. Attendees included consultants, MBA students and alumni, and invited business leaders.

Andrew and Peter presented on IBM's global C-suite of over 4000 top business leaders in over 70 countries. Over 50 of those surveyed were from New Zealand's leading organisations.

Their presentation learned how top executives plan to meet customer challenges through new customer strategies, social, mobile and analytics capabilities and business model innovations.

The 40 or so people who attended participated in a lively debate about the survey’s findings, and their implications for New Zealand business and society.
