Research Projects

My research aim is to reconstruct past environments in New Zealand, such as what the vegetation was like during late Quaternary ice ages and warm periods. I’m interested in what the past can tell us about future climate change. I focus mainly on using numerical methods to reconstruct past temperatures based on plant and insect fossils we find in lake sediments. Most recently I started work for the Lakes 380 project: Our lakes’ health: past, present, future - Me hoki whakamuri kia haere whakamua. I am also involved in teaching for the Environmental Science programme.
