Information

This prize was established by a private donor, via the Victoria University of Wellington Foundation in 2019, to recognise an exceptional postgraduate student at the New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington.

The prize recognises and rewards a postgraduate student who demonstrates excellence in performance by supporting a public concert or recital project. This award is designed to help students gain experience and exposure through the presentation of a public concert.

Prize funds are to assist the student with a performance or recital project undertaken during their studies.

Selection Criteria

Selection is contingent on full-time enrolment as a student at the New Zealand School of Music in the year it is received. Previous winners are eligible to receive the award on subsequent occasions if they are judged to meet the criteria for the award.

The recipient will be selected by Director of NZSM, senior staff at the school, and the NZSM scholarships committee based on either the final recital for current students, or an audition for incoming students.

Where no suitable recipient is identified in a given year, the available funds can, at the discretion of the decision-makers, be rolled over to the next academic year.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

Recipients are required to write a letter of thanks to the donor within one month of receiving this award.

The recipient will be expected to demonstrate engagement and contribute to the community and environment of the New Zealand School of Music.

The recipient of this award is expected to perform a public concert in a professional setting. The award funds will be used to assist in securing appropriate conditions, and at which the donor will be anonymously present. The recipient will work closely with supervisors within the school in selecting venue and repertoire and will have assistance with publicity from the NZSM.
