This prize is awarded to a student who completed a degree with Economics as the major subject and is engaged in the year of the Scholarship's tenure in an approved full-time course of postgraduate study at Victoria University of Wellington, the main focus of the course being economic theory, policy and research.
This prize was established in 1961 by ex-students and friends of the Victoria University of Wellington to commemorate the work of Professor B E Murphy, Professor of Economics from 1920-1951. It was originally called the Bernard Edward Murphy Memorial Scholarship.
The prize is awarded on the recommendation of the Head of School, School of Economics and Finance.
An award will not be made if no student is deemed worthy of the Prize.
The recipient may only receive the prize once.
The recipient will be asked to write a letter of appreciation which will be forwarded to the donor.
