H.E. Jia Qinglin Visits Victoria University of Wellington

VUW was honoured with the visit of H.E. Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of the PRC, as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the establishment of diplomatic relations with New Zealand.
The speech Jia delivered, expressing his wish to further develop economic relations with New Zealand also emphasised the important role Confucius Institutes play as a platform to New Zealanders learning Chinese language and culture. He praised the scheme of Confucius Classrooms and supported the various Chinese courses offered in primary and secondary schools to nearly 13,000 students. At the end of his speech, Jia took time to talk to a number of VUW Chinese Language students, encouraging them to further enhance their excellent Chinese language and culture knowledge.
