Description

This scholarship is for any student at 300-level or above who is embarking on a project or essay or thesis of 30 points or more which engages in topics related to the human dimensions of forest health management.

History

This scholarship is funded by Mobilising for Action, a research theme of the Biological Heritage National Science Challenge Ngā Rākau Taketake programme and has been established to encourage students to engage in academic or creative projects related to the human dimensions of forest health management, specifically in relation to kauri dieback and myrtle rust. Who is eligible?

  • Applicants must have completed two years of study and be enrolled, or intending to enrol, in a course at 300 level or higher.
  • Applicants must be involved in a creative or academic project of 30 points or more.

Selection Criteria

  • Applicants must be enrolled, or intending to enrol, at Te Herenga Waka, in a course of 30 points or more, at 300 level or higher, whose major output is an essay or project or thesis.
  • The focus of their essay or project must be on the human dimensions of forest health – notably kauri dieback and myrtle rust.

Scholarship specific documentation

  • A one-page letter outlining (1) the course (30 points or higher) you are taking or planning to take, (2) the type of work you will be producing (eg, podcast, essay, visual artwork, thesis, film, magazine article, infographic, map), and (3) the focus of your work and how it will engage with the topic.

Selection process

Decisions will be made by a panel including two academics from the Centre for Science in Society at Te Herenga Waka and one representative of the Mobilising for Action project team.

Regulations and conditions

  1. A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4:30pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
  2. The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
  3. The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
  4. Students will be required to have some public facing result of their work, either a blog post or a piece of science communication, or a poster, which can be shared on publicly, eg, on the Mobilising for Action website.
