Nisha Ghatak

Nisha Ghatak is a Doctoral Candidate in Comparative Literature at the University of Auckland.

Nisha Ghatak is a doctoral candidate in comparative literature at the University of Auckland. Her doctoral thesis focuses on a cross-cultural postcolonial study of twentieth-century women’s autobiographies from India, with reference to bilingualism and female desire.

Currently a graduate teaching assistant in global studies and comparative literature, Nisha has previously completed a bachelor’s degree from Jadavpur University, India, and a Master’s Degree from Hyderabad Central University, India.

Between 2015–18, she was part of three research projects funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Government of India) and University Grants Commission (India).

Nisha has previously worked on nineteenth-century courtesan culture in India and an anthology of translations from South India, due to be published in early 2020. Her areas of research interests include: Indian women in theatre, nineteenth and twentieth-century literature from South Asia, women’s autobiographical writings, and postcolonial theory.
