CMPO 101: Introduction to Composition, Sonic Arts, and Filmscoring

Students apply their skills learned in the course through a series of short compositions, sound-based works, and short film scoring.

About the course: An introduction to key techniques and concepts in instrumental/vocal composition, sonic arts and film scoring. Students apply and learn these skills through a series of short compositions, sound-based works and scoring a short film. Students are expected to possess a basic knowledge of musical notation and music theory, to about a Grade 5 level.

Assessment details: For their assignments students create soundtracks (Create the musical score AND sound design for one of the (silent) short films provided), compose texture/transformation pieces (60–90-second piece of electronic music), and create a sample/drum electronic work (60–90 seconds).
