The auction, held at the Wellesley Boutique Hotel and supported by Dunbar Sloane Ltd, was to raise funds for the national music centre and enabled guests to bid on 30 artworks generously donated by leading New Zealand artists.

Kerry Prendergast CNZM, Fundraising Chair, Justin Lester, Mayor of Wellington, Donald Best, Chair of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and the University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Grant Guilford, attended the event.

The project to create a national centre of musical excellence involves the redevelopment of Wellington Town Hall and adjacent buildings to create an outstanding collaborative space for music, creativity and the arts. The new space will also provide a world-class home for the University’s New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī  and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Executive Director of the University’s Development Office Patricia Danver says, “We were delighted by the support shown during the evening and look forward to more opportunities to share progress on this significant and exciting project.”
