Summer Scholarship Scheme 2012-2013

*NEW* Externally funded summer scholarships

For the first time the Faculty of Education have two external projects to add to our list of Summer Scholarship projects.

  • Ako Aotearoa, National Centre of Tertiary Teaching Excellence funds research projects that seek to improve the outcomes of tertiary learners. Over the past 2 years we have been exploring the outcomes from our funding. This project looks to evaluate the impact of our nationally funded projects in relation to benefits to learners, teachers and the project teams.
  • Educa Limited provides online portfolio system to New Zealand early childhood centres, teachers and parents. It significantly improves their communication with parents. Educa provides a secure and interactive environment where teachers and parents can share (learning stories, photos and videos) and collaborate on children’s learning. Educa (touch) is also available as an app for iphone, ipod touch and ipad. Teachers and parents can create learning stories with children and receive parent feedback on the go. The Educa project: Assessing the Quality of Parent, ECE Centre and Teacher Engagement. Discover what constitutes quality parent/teacher “engagement” in the context of online portfolios in early childhood education. www.educa.co.nz

This is an excellent opportunity to work with both the Education Faculty and a company. If you wish to apply for either of these, send your CV and covering letter to: pam.ritchie@vuw.ac.nz before COB 17 October 2012.

Interviews will be held from the 18 October.  These projects also start 12 November and run until 22 February 2013.

VUW Internal Summer Scholarship Scheme: now closed.

Summer Research Scholarships offer a unique opportunity for students to gain experience in research and get an insight into what studying for a research degree entails. Each scholarship gives a student the experience of working with established researchers on a specified project.

Before applying please read the Victoria Summer Research Scholarship conditions to ensure you are eligible.

Applications are invited from:

  • students currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree (near completion)
  • honors or first year masters degree students at any New Zealand or Australian university who are intending to study at Victoria University in 2013

Students will be selected on the basis of academic merit, expertise in the research area, and recommendations from staff associated with the project.
