Summer Scholars Scheme

Summer Scholars Scheme

The Summer Scholars Scheme provides summer research scholarships that offer a unique opportunity for students to obtain experience in research. This opportunity provides insight into what studying for a research degree is all about.

Each scholarship offers the student the experience of working with established researchers in an area of interest to them. Students will be expected to conduct a research project of approximately ten weeks duration (400 hours) under the supervision of an academic staff member or a research team. The scholarship pays $7000 for 400 hours of work. The students will be starting work on 15 November and will be mostly based in the Jessie Hetherington Centre.

Five students have been selected as Summer Scholars to work on research projects alongside some of our researchers.

  • Julia Cunneen is working with Dr Roseanna Bourke, Dr Judith Loveridge and Carolyn Tait. The research project is 'Self-assessment and student learning: School-based tertiary sectors'.
  • Lynley McLay is working with Dr Matt McCrudden. The research project is 'The influence of readers' goal, metacomprehension, and strategy use on text learning'.
  • Tessa Prior is working with Dr Judith Loveridge. The research project is 'Two home-based early childhood education programmes: Distance based and early intervention'.
  • Loreto Mattioni is working with Anne Hynds, Linda Hogg and Ann Hardie on a combination of projects: 'Supporting marker consistency in teacher education' and 'Issues of diversity and homophobia in teacher education'.
  • Mahsa Izadinia is working with Dr Liz Jones on a half scholarship: 'Effectiveness of a professional learning community'.
