Consulting club takes out national competition
Victoria Business Consulting Club has come out on top in this year’s Student Development Society (SDS) National Business Case Competition.
The SDS competition involves three rounds of presentations, contested by six New Zealand universities. In each round, teams are given a real-life company to analyse, and have five hours to prepare business strategies before presenting their ideas to a judging panel.
The team placed first in the final round hosted that weekend. This secured the national champion title for the three-round competition— a first for Victoria Business School (VBS).
The third and final round of the competition, involved teams presenting strategic recommendations based on a case study focused on Sharesies.
Victoria Business School was represented by students Marko Garlick, Marsanne Jordan, Rob Teagle and Emma Westbrooke.
Marko Garlick, a member of the VBS team that competed over the weekend said he was “proud of the team’s performance on giving sound advice to an exciting young company in a changing financial marketplace”. Members of the club speak incredibly highly of the opportunities it provides them to develop and display their skills.
The teams performance is a testament to the coaching the teams received from Cam Howarth (RBNZ) and Sarah Postlethwaite (EY) who both put in many hours preparing the teams.
