Sally-Ann Spencer: Winner of the inaugural Women in German Studies Book Prize

Sally-Ann Spencer has received the prize for a book proposal based on the thesis she wrote for her recently completed PhD in Literary Translation Studies.

Congratulations are due to Sally-Ann Spencer, winner of the inaugural Women in German Studies Book Prize. She received the prize for a book proposal based on the thesis she wrote for her recently completed PhD in Literary Translation Studies. Sally-Ann's study is the first comprehensive analysis of German-English literary translation in the digital age. It examines key aspects of contemporary German-English book publishing and critically appraises received frameworks for translation research, assessing their suitability for describing the multiple borders and shifting dynamics of translation networks in the 21st century. The awards ceremony took place at the Women in German Studies conference held at the University of Durham in early November 2015. Founded in 1988, Women in German Studies is an association of female Germanists based in the UK. As Sally-Ann was unable to attend in person (she beamed in by Skype from New Zealand), she was asked to send a video presentation of her work for screening during the ceremony.
