3 Minute Thesis 2014

3 Minute Thesis

The 3 Minute Thesis is an exercise in developing academic and research communication skills. Masters by Thesis and Doctoral students will have three minutes to give an engaging and dynamic talk on their thesis topic and its significance in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience.

In the preliminary rounds SCPS was represented by Thom Minnee (PHYS PhD), Prasanth Gupta Sridhar (PHYS PhD), Ruth Corkill (PHYS, Hons), Sophie Geyrhofer (CHEM PhD), Jingjing Wang (CHEM PhD), Rimpy Kinger (PHYS PhD), and Wilfred Kittler (PHYS PhD). In addition, Tim Brox was heavily involved in the organisation and Gillian Turner and Sergei Obruchkov helped judge the Law and Commerce heat.

Congratulations to all our competitors, especially to Wilfred Kittler who won his round, and Ruth Corkill who was voted best Honours student from all the rounds. Ruth and Wilfred competed in the finals, which were held on 26 September, with Wilfred taking third place.
