New Dean of Science appointed

Professor David Harper, from Victoria University’s School of Psychology, has been appointed as the Dean of Science.

The behavioural pharmacology specialist and current Deputy Dean of Science takes up his new position on Monday 3 November.

Professor Harper has taught at in the School of Psychology for nearly 21 years and although he calls the Easterfield building ‘home’, is looking forward to taking up a new leadership role.

“It’s a time of change and I’m really excited to be part of things moving forward, both as a University and a Faculty,” he says.

As Dean of Science, Professor Harper will be responsible for the operational and strategic management of the five schools within the Faculty, as well as overseeing programme administration and development.

He also plans to maintain his research projects and work with postgraduate students.

Professor Harper says the main challenge in his new role will be around building on student numbers and increasing research funding, which he describes as an opportunity Faculty-wide.

“There is a real potential for us to target different areas and look at alternative options for driving growth in the University.”
