New paper by Terise Broodryk and Kealagh Robinson investigating young people and policy breaches during lockdown

New research published by Terise Broodryk and Kealagh Robinson shows that young New Zealanders reported very high numbers of policy breaches during lockdown, but those were not related to anxiety or worry.

Although anxiety and worry can motivate engagement with COVID-19 preventative behaviours, people may cognitively reframe these unpleasant emotions, restoring wellbeing at the cost of public health behaviours.

Terise Broodryk and Kealagh Robinson discovered that despite high knowledge of lockdown policies in their sample of young adults, 92.5% reported at least 1 policy breach with no relationship to anxiety or worry being found.

These findings offer insight into the role of emotion regulation during lockdown and the importance of targeted promotion of lockdown compliance  to young adults.
