Fees, scholarships and withdrawals

All the information you need to know about Young Musicians Programme fees and scholarships, and how to withdraw from the programme.

YMP enrolment

Apply to enrol for YMP after reading YMP class descriptions and viewing the YMP schedule. See information about fees below. Jazz and classical classes run for two ten-week modules and composition for eight weeks. Classes are subject to change including cancellation. Enrol now to secure your place.

YMP fees

An annual membership fee of $600 gives YMP participants access to all our regular classes that the student is eligible for, with $300 due at the start of each module. You will receive an email with a link to pay via a secure online payment portal, after the second week of classes.

Students who have successfully applied for the STAR tertiary course PERF 165 will enrol both for YMP and for Victoria University of Wellington under discretionary entrance. PERF 165 has additional fees. STAR funding may be available through your secondary school. Please contact the YMP Administrator for further information.

Scholarships

Scholarships courtesy of Wellington Masonic Youth Trust are available in cases of financial hardship. Further funds are provided thanks to the Baines Trust and the Deane Endowment Trust in order to support students and the YMP programme. Half scholarships ($300) or full scholarships ($600) will be awarded at the start of the year according to the published criteria depending on demonstrated need and the number of scholarships available in the current year. Please read the eligibility criteria first to see if you are eligible, before applying before the deadline.

Please see the scholarship criteria below. Module 1 scholarship applications close 26 February 2021. Apply for a 2021 YMP scholarship

Scholarship criteria

A limited number of scholarships are available to assist students who would otherwise be unable to participate in YMP. These are either half scholarships of $300 or full scholarships of $600.

Key criteria:

  • Financial hardship.

Additional criteria:

  • Māori or Pasifika descent
  • Instruments in shortage areas - viola, double bass and all wind instruments.

Please contact the YMP Administrator with any queries at nzsmymp@vuw.ac.nz.

Withdrawing from the programme

Please be aware that withdrawals at a late stage can significantly disrupt the organisation and coordination of the programme. All enrolments are for the full year, apart from those advertised as being a single module (Composition, Classical Guitar). We accept a limited number of new enrolments mid-year.

However, if you must withdraw, we will cancel your invoice and refund any tuition fees paid if you withdraw before your second class.

If you withdraw after this date you will be liable for the full module's fees and you will have to return any scholarships awarded to you, except in exceptional circumstances.
