New record label and book from NZSM Senior Lecturer Dave Lisik

Senior Lecturer Dave Lisik has launched SkyDeck, a new record label and publisher, and co-written a book on the history of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.

50 Years At The Village Vanguard.

The book—50 Years at the Village Vanguard—celebrates the half-century legacy of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, and is co-written by Dave Lisik and Eric Allen. It has received a glowing review from the All About Jazz website.

"Lisik and Allen have somehow left no stone unturned when assembling this incredibly thorough history of an iconic ensemble."

SkyDeck has released two albums since its launch on February 22. CSPS - On the Face Place features NZSM Lecturer Dr Dave Wilson alongside a jazz ensemble of Macedonia's top jazz musicians, and In Passing features Dave Wilson on clarinet and Gabe Lavin on Oud.

Other albums soon to be released include Rodger's Fox's The FunkBone Experience featuring top American musicians Dave Mathews and Dwayne Pate as well as NZSM musicians Lance Philip and Nick Granville.

Bonnie and Clyde features New York jazz musicians Alex Sipiagin and Dave Kikoski playing original tunes, all inspired by famous duos, composed by Dave Lisik.

And Hitch / Slap features some of the best jazz musicians in the world: Donny McCaslin (David Bowie's final album, Blackstar), Luis Bonilla (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra), and Jeff "Tain" Watts (Wynton and Branford Marsalis) performing music by Dave Lisik.
