LATI 202: Latin Language and Literature

Students provide essays on translations of Latin texts.

About the course: An integrated course of literature and language to build on LATI 201 and further develop reading skills and literary appreciation. This course will be based on the reading in class of selected passages of Latin from the set texts. Students who pass the course will be able to read passages and exhibit familiarity with the vocabulary and style of Ovid, Caesar, Catullus, and other authors.

Lisa Haasbroek looks at the poetry of Catullus, who wrote during the time of Julius Caesar, in her essay and "seek[s] to offer a fresh interpretation of the passer found in Catullus’ trilogy. It will be hypothesized Lesbia’s passer represents female genitalia, not male"
