China’s View on the South China Sea

The New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre (NZCCRC) hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China on Friday 26 July. Mr Ouyang Yujing, Director-General, Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs was joined by Yin Wenqiang, Manager of Division, Xu Dong, Third Secretary and other representatives from the Ministry. Mr Ouyang led discussions with academics from the NZCCRC on China's position in the region.

The roundtable provided an opportunity for New Zealand and Chinese scholars to exchange views on a number of issues related to the South China Sea. The panel discussed the evolution of the current situation, how to maintain regional stability and cooperation with ASEAN member states. The roundtable led to a greater understanding of the policy positions and objectives of each country in the region.
