China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CI-CIR)

The New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre (NZCCRC) and the Centre for Strategic Studies (CSS) jointly hosted a delegation from the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CI-CIR) on Monday 24 April. Fu Mengzi, Vice President of CI-CIR was joined by, Hu Shisheng, Director, Institute of South and Southeast Asian and Oceanian Studies, CI-CIR, Ni Jianjun, Deputy Director, Institute of World Economic Studies, CI-CIR and Lou Chunhao, Deputy Director, Institute of Maritime Studies, CI-CIR. Fu Mengzi led the Chinese delegation in dialogue with academics affiliated with both the NZCCRC and CSS.

The roundtable provided an opportunity for scholars to have discussions on a range of issues relevant to the New Zealand—China relationship. Topics discussed included Regional economy post-TPP, Security outlook for the Asia Pacific region, Belt and Road Initiative and NZ—China relations. The dialogue nurtured a greater understanding of the policy positions and objectives of each country in the region, highlighted common regional challenges, and discussed the economic landscape post-TPP.
