Accounting bodies recognise Wellington School of Business and Government academics

Professor Tony van Zijl, Professor Judy Brown, and Associate Professor Carolyn Fowler have each received special recognition from Australia and New Zealand’s leading accounting professional bodies.

Professor Tony van Zijl FCA, Professor of Accounting and Financial Management and Director of the Centre for Accounting, Governance, and Taxation research, has been made a Life member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) in acknowledgment of his exceptional career. Professor van Zijl has had extensive involvement in accounting standard setting and expert witness work. His research focuses on the role of information in capital markets. Professor van Zijl joins just 23 other CA ANZ life members.

Professor Judy Brown has been made a Fellow member of CA ANZ. The award of FCA acknowledges her outstanding achievements and contribution to the accounting profession. Professor Brown’s research focuses on the study of accounting in a social and political context, including critical accounting, labour relations, sustainability, and participatory governance.

Head of the School of Accounting and Commercial Law, Associate Professor Carolyn Fowler FCA, was recently also made a Fellow member of Certified Practising Accountants Australia (CPA Australia). To become an FCPA, Associate Professor Fowler had to demonstrate her significant experience and impact in the accounting profession. Associate Professor Fowler’s research focuses on strategy and management accounting, the accounting profession and education, and accounting history with an emphasis on accounting and accountants in colonial New Zealand.

CA ANZ and CPA Australia are the two leading professional accounting bodies in New Zealand and Australia. Combined they represent over 289,000 accounting professionals located around the world.
