A professor in Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Government has been awarded the 2015 Fred Riggs Award for Lifetime Achievement in International and Comparative Public Administration by SICA.

Evan Berman, Professor of Public Management and Director of Internationalisation, is a member of SICA, the Section on International and Comparative Administration of the American Society for Public Administration.

This prestigious award recognises Professor Berman's outstanding research in cross-national comparative administration, his international reputation as a scholar and practitioner, and the impact of his research.

SICA Chair Gedeon M. Mudacumura says Professor Berman is an accomplished scholar who has demonstrated and continues to make significant, substantial and widely recognised contributions to the conceptual, theoretical or operational development of international and comparative administration.

He also commented on the quality of his wide ranging research and the manner in which he has pioneered new ways of teaching and conducting research while living abroad.

"This award is a terrific achievement, and an outstanding acknowledgement of the quality of Evan's work, its impact and of his international standing," says Professor Bob Buckle, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Commerce at Victoria Business School.

Professor Berman says he was "deeply honoured" to receive the award.

"It's a great note to start 2015 on, and recognition for some major pieces of work on public administration in Asia-Pacific," he added.

In addition to international public administration, Professor Berman also does research and teaching in the areas of leadership, human resources management, and public performance.

Professor Berman was identified among the 100 most productive scholars in the field of public administration between 1973 and 2006 in the journal Public Administration, ranked among the top five journals in the field.

Of the 15,547 individual authors who published in public administration journals, Professor Berman was among the top 100 scholars with the highest number of articles and citations, based on data provided by the Social Sciences Citation Index.

Professor Berman will receive his award at the SICA annual business meeting in Chicago on 8 March.
