Her fascination with languages started in the town in New Zealand where she grew up. There, Maori was spoken and the names of places were all in Maori.
Today, Dr Catherine Churchman is a polyglot who teaches in the Asian Studies Programme in the School of Languages and Cultures at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.
