Dr Brenda Chawner has been awarded LIANZA Fellowship

Congratulations to Dr Brenda Chawner, who has been awarded a LIANZA Fellowship.

Brenda's LIANZA Fellowship is awarded for her “significant role in library and information studies in New Zealand”, and for the demonstration of “sustained leadership in library education and scholarship”..

Brenda’s citation also highlights her contribution to the library profession in New Zealand. She “has made a significant contribution to the implementation of LIANZA’s professional registration scheme and is a member of the LIANZA Registration Board. She is currently editor of LIANZA’s professional journal and has advocated for the library community in proposed amendments of the Copyright Act.

More recently, Brenda has been heavily involved in advocating for open source software. She is a member of the FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software) community and the NZ Open Source Software Society Council. Brenda effectively bridges the gap between the Library and IT professions.”

Brenda has demonstrated sustained leadership in library education and scholarship. She has served the profession in developing key services, as an advocate on behalf of the profession for effective national policy, as a teacher and researcher. Brenda supports and encourages other to fulfil their professional aspirations.
