Priyanka Roy, Theatre PhD candidate to present at PGSA Interactive Postgrad Forum

Priyanka will present her topic: Playing with Feminine Rage: Shakespeare’s Depiction of Anger, Sexuality and Gender

Priyanka Roy"In this presentation, I aim to discuss the depiction of feminine rage in Shakespeare’s plays. Apart from the general scope and purpose of my research, I will review how  anger is portrayed for different genders. Does Shakespeare’s portrayal of female anger aptly capture women’s experience of anger in early modern England? How do we interpret anger in our contemporary reading and staging of Shakespeare’s works? Can feminine rage be seen as a liberating and disruptive act in Shakespeare’s plays? I will describe, in general, my theoretical framework and in particular, how I intent to employ Judith Butler’s discourse of gender performativity to seek out answers to my research questions. I intent to end my presentation with a few words on my research journey."

She will be one of four presenters at this event hosted and organised by the PGSA, which takes place on Tuesday 30 May from 4-6pm at Pipitea Campus, Rutherford House MZ05.
