Research funding success

Victoria University of Wellington researchers have received more than $7 million funding in the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s 2014 science investment round.

Grant Williams

One of the successful researchers is Dr Grant Williams (right), a professorial research fellow in the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences. He and Dr Andy Edgar succeeded in winning major funding for their project on dosimeters and radiation imaging devices. The project aims to develop a new device that measures the radiation dose as part of a cancer treatment planning process. As part of the work, researchers will also be developing portable x-ray imaging systems for non-destructive testing. This study will receive almost $2.4 million over four years.

Grant is also a Principal Investigator in a GNS Science lead programme on Next Generation Nano-Electronics that will receive funding of $1 million over two years.

Rob Keyzers

Dr Rob Keyzers (left) is involved in a project led by Dr Wayne Linklater from SBS to work on Mammalian pher-omone lures, which moved to stage 2 of the Smart-Ideas category of funding.

Also, while not part of this year’s investment round, the MBIE project on new NMR technologies and products, led by Dr Robin Dykstra from ECS with strong involvement of our own Dr Petrik Galvosas, has just been very favourably reviewed and given the green light to continue for another two years.
