Our approach to restorative justice

We honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi in our strong relationships with iwi and hapū and in all aspects of our work in restorative practice.

The Centre brings together a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, evaluators, scholars and practitioners, committed to working with a restorative justice lens to tackle complex, social issues in contemporary Aotearoa.

We:

  • work in partnership with restorative providers and experts across Aotearoa New Zealand to support local solutions for local problems
  • work closely with our seven government sponsors to contribute work that amplifies policy impact
  • design restorative schemes
  • develop and manage restorative practices
  • monitor and evaluate restorative solutions
  • share evidence, as it emerges, on ‘what works’
  • foster dialogue and encourage debate through our seminar and occasional webinar series
  • promote connection through developing and participating in networks that bring experts (lived and learnt) from New Zealand and across the world into conversation.

We honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the strong relationships with iwi and hapū that we sustain and in all aspects of our research, training, teaching and engagement activities, which support and engage with mātauranga Māori and the goals of self-determination and development.
