Q&A with Lauren Armstrong, 3rd year Jazz Performance Vocal Major
We thought we'd start a regular Q&A series as a way of getting to know some of the staff and students at NZSM. Round two features 3rd year jazz vocal student, Lauren Armstrong.
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to and why?
Joshua Redman. He’s just the maaan!
What are your non-musical hobbies?
Scuba Diving, Snorkelling… Anything ocean related!
Who is your favourite musician and why?
Nat King Cole. His ideas are not overly complicated but they’re super effective and so beautiful. What an absolute dude!
At which store would you like to max-out your credit card?
Hunters and Collectors! Yeyuhhh
What instruments can you play?
My main instrument is voice. But I can also play guitar and a bit of bass.
What was the last thing you ate?
A crumpet with some dukkah on it. Yumbo Jumbo Mumbo!
Do you have any strange phobias?
Yip, a certain green insect… Two words… P____ M_____. Urgh! Not ya mate!!!
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Have amazing free diving abilities so I could swim with the sharkies forever.
What songs/ pieces would be on the soundtrack to your life?
Anything Billie Holiday related, she’s too cute for words!
Where are your favourite places to spend time at in Wellington?
Down at Crumpet Cafe, enjoying a nice cuppa and reading a book. Or somewhere outdoorsy on the South Coast.
