John Psathas sells out the Michael Fowler Centre with No Man's Land

Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music’s Professor John Psathas’ love letter to peace is one of the sold-out shows in the NZ Festival.

No Man’s Land features international musicians performing live alongside 150 virtual musicians from more than 20 countries.

The performers include Lebanese-American Serj Tankian, India’s Meeta Pandit, UNESCO Artist for Peace Márta Sebestyén from Hungary, and the Refugees of Rap from Syria and Palestine.

The epic world symphony brings together the descendants of opposing forces in WWI and reunites them in friendship and musical exchange on the sites where their forefathers fought a century ago.

Director Jasmine Millet and cinematographer Mathew Knight filmed musicians around the globe. The film will be projected together with the sound into the live performance. Together these virtual and live performers create an international orchestra performing music that leaps musical genres as it does borders, from folk to hip-hop to rock and classical.
