Farewell to Director Euan Murdoch

This week we say farewell to NZSM Director Euan Murdoch who is leaving to take up an exciting new role as Chief Executive of the Melbourne Recital Centre.  The Centre is home to some of Australia’s leading ensembles and an active presenter of many of Australia’s and the world’s best artists in a diverse range of genres and styles.

During his time at Victoria, Euan has been an impassioned advocate for music in all of its many forms.

Under his leadership, the jazz and music therapy programmes have successfully relocated to the Kelburn campus. As executive producer for No Man’s Land, composed by John Psathas and co-produced by Victoria University of Wellington, he successfully managed this complex project to fruition. He has worked tirelessly to explore the opportunities afforded by a potential Civic Music Hub with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Wellington City Council. Euan also has initiated NZSM’s partnerships with the New Zealand Festival and Wellington Jazz Festival and established greater international links for the NZSM, especially with institutions in China.

Acclaimed composer, sound artist and academic Dr Dugal McKinnon will become Acting Director from next week. Dugal will act in the Director’s role for an initial period of six months.
