Bartok violin duos transcribed by Prof Donald Maurice
Bartok's 44 violin duos have been transcribed for viola by NZSM's Prof Donald Maurice, and Claudine Bigelow.
The publication of the transcriptions follows on from a recording of the works made by Donald and fellow violist Claudine Bigelow in 2012, who at the time was at NZSM on a Fulbright Scholarship. The CD of the recordings was launched in Poland in 2014.
The publication of the music edition is a landmark in Donald’s Bartok research career, which spans over 25 years and includes a book publication by Oxford University Press in 2005.
Donald says that having the transcriptions published by a major Hungarian company has ‘brought the whole project to closure’.
