Business stalwart John Shewan will help the next generation of students prepare for life in the fast lane by taking up the position of Adjunct Professor of Accounting in the School of Accounting and Commercial Law at Victoria Business School.
Business stalwart John Shewan will help the next generation of students prepare for life in the fast lane by taking up the position of Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Victoria Business School.
The Dean of Victoria Business School, Professor Bob Buckle, today announced the retiring Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers New Zealand will become an Adjunct Professor in the School of Accounting and Commercial Law in September.
“I am delighted that Mr Shewan has accepted this adjunct professorship—his insight and experience from a long and successful career in accounting and business will be of immense value to our students and staff,” says Professor Buckle.
“Current and future students considering a career in accounting will benefit from his business acumen and knowledge, and he brings a practitioner’s perspective to the research issues at hand across the School.”
Professor Buckle says Mr Shewan’s appointment follows a number of significant new appointments in the field of public finance and taxation at Victoria Business School, including Chair of Public Finance Professor Norman Gemmell and Visiting Professorial Fellow John Creedy, which is deepening the School’s expertise in this area.
Mr Shewan currently chairs the Victoria Business School Advisory Board, sits on the School of Accounting and Commercial Law and the Centre for Accounting, Governance and Taxation Research (CAGTR) Advisory Board, and was a member of the Victoria University of Wellington Tax Working Group.
A Victoria University alumnus, he was made a Victoria Distinguished Alumni Award winner in 2010 and earlier this year was made Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business.
During his three-year appointment he will deliver guest lectures to students and the public, and contribute to the School’s research activities.
