Summer Trimester Māori Language Courses for Beginners

Keen to start learning te reo Māori? Te Kawa a Māui is offering Māori language courses for beginners this coming summer trimester.

MAOR 101 Te Tīmatanga/Introduction to Māori Language

An introductory course, so you don’t need any previous Māori language experience. The focus is on the fundamentals – accurate pronunciation, and building knowledge of basic Māori sentences and vocabulary.

Teaching dates: 17 November to 18 December 2015. Lectures are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am-12pm, plus one two-hour tutorial per week (days and times to be confirmed).

Assessment: 100% internal assessment.

MAOR 102 Te Arumanga/Elementary Māori Language

This course is for students with an elementary grasp of the language, and works to build on the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, to attain a level of language competency equivalent to NCEA Level 3 or its equivalent.

Teaching dates: 5 January to 12 February 2016. Lectures are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am-12pm, plus one two-hour tutorial per week (days and times to be confirmed).

Assessment: 100% internal assessment.

Enrol online by: 1 November 2015. Current students can add these courses up until 20 November 2015 for MAOR 101, and 8 January 2016 for MAOR 102.
