Description

As Texans endure the impact of the worst winter storm in decades while, further east, king tides routinely cause disruptive flooding for coastal cities and towns, U.S. President Joe Biden has recommitted the United States to the Paris climate agreement and temporarily paused any new oil drilling on federal land.

What happens next? What sea-level rise are scientists seeing and anticipating, and what further consequences will this have? How is Antarctica contributing to climate change knowledge, and responding to warming? How will we reduce greenhouse gas emissions?

Hear from:

  • Professor Tim Naish, Professor in Earth Sciences at the world-leading Antarctic Research Centre
  • Associate Professor Rebecca Priestley, science communications specialist and Antarctic historian and author
  • Professor James Renwick, weather and climate scientist in the Faculty of Science, IPCC contributor, and commissioner for the New Zealand Climate Change Commission

The panel will be hosted by the University's U.S. Director of Engagement Dr. Fraka Harmsen.

While this webinar will have a focus on America, alumni worldwide are invited to join us as their time zone allows.

NB: This webinar takes place on Wednesday 17 March in the U.S. at 1 pm Pacific Time, 2 pm Mountain Time, 3 pm Central Time and 4 pm Eastern Time, which is Thursday 18 March at 9 am in New Zealand.
