Building in Antarctica presents a number of challenges for architects. Hear from Pip Cheshire about this experience working on the conservation of three iconic huts on the continent—Scott’s Hut at Cape Evans and Hut Point; Shackleton’s Hut at Cape Royd’s; and Hillary’s Hut at Pram Point on Scott Base.


Speaker Bios

Pip Cheshire is an architect and director of Cheshire Architects in Auckland. In 2013, he was awarded the New Zealand Institute of Architects’ Gold Medal. In addition to his work in Antarctica, Cheshire’s portfolio of projects includes Te Papa, when he was director of JASMAX, and master planning the Britomart precinct and the Q Theatre, both in Auckland.
