I joined the Student Counselling Service at Victoria in 2014. Most of my working life has been in educational environments: teaching, supporting international students, and most recently counselling. I understand the challenges of tertiary study, having studied at six different New Zealand universities and polytechnics, gaining a Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching and a Master of Counselling amongst other qualifications.
What I love about counselling is the opportunity to really connect with the person I’m talking with, and the sense of mutual learning that often occurs. For me, counselling is about providing a supportive place where students can explore what they want to change or make sense of – and which fosters students’ hope, strength and resilience.
I work at Victoria three days a week and balance my counselling work with adventures by foot and pedal in our amazing outdoors.
