December 2022 graduation

Ceremony and parade information

At the end of each ceremony staff, graduates, family, and friends are invited to mingle and enjoy tea and coffee.

12 pm Wednesday 7 December, Old Government Building to Te Ngākau Civic Square

Graduation Parade for all Faculties

2 pm Wednesday 7 December, Michael Fowler Centre

Ceremony 1:

  • Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation
  • Wellington Faculty of Engineering
  • Wellington Faculty of Health
  • Wellington Faculty of Science

6.30 pm Wednesday 7 December, Michael Fowler Centre

Ceremony 2:

Te Hui Whakapūmau - This is an official university graduation ceremony based on tikanga Māori (Māori cultural practices). We are excited to bring this ceremony to the Michael Fowler Centre to accommodate growing numbers of graduates, whānau and friends.

2 pm Thursday 8 December, Michael Fowler Centre

  • Wellington School of Business and Government
  • Faculty of Law

6.30 pm Thursday 8 December, Michael Fowler Centre

Ceremony 4:

  • Wellington Faculty of Education
  • Wellington Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

At the end of each ceremony staff, graduates, family, and friends are invited to mingle and enjoy tea and coffee.

Location

The graduation ceremonies take place at the Michael Fowler Centre, 111 Wakefield Street, Wellington.

There is currently no parking available at the Michael Fowler Centre and limited parking available in the surrounding area. It’s recommended that you use public transport, car-pool or taxi share, if there are a number of staff coming from one campus.

Graduation parade

If you want to take part, you'll need to be at the Law School, Pipitea campus, by 11.45 am (Please note that due to temporary bus stops outside the Law School, please refrain from  congregating on the footpaths as these need to be kept clear for public access).

The street parade is on Wednesday 7 December at 12 pm and is for all faculties. The parade starts from Old Government Building to Te Ngākau Civic Square via Lambton Quay and Willis Street. On arrival to Te Ngākau Civic Square there will be speeches to congratulate all graduates.

Marae graduation

Kāore Taku Raru is the official waiata of Te Herenga Waka Marae. It is sung during the pōwhiri of graduands and their families upon entering the Hub.

We are excited to bring this ceremony to the Michael Fowler Centre on Wednesday 7 December, 6:30 pm, to accommodate growing numbers of graduates, whānau and friends.

Doctorates’ celebration

The Vice-Provost (Research) will host a celebration for all doctorate graduates.

Pasifika Graduation Celebration

A celebration for Pasifika graduates, their families and their Pasifika community at Te Herenga Waka. This event celebrates the graduand and their family’s success, as well as Pasifika cultures and identities.

Livestream

We're excited to livestream all of our graduation ceremonies in December.

This is an opportunity for your friends, family and supporters to watch you cross the stage. They can also view a recording after the ceremony.

Certificates

If your ceremony was deferred due to Covid 19 and you have already received your Degree Certificate and you are now attending this December ceremony, you will receive a commemorative certificate on stage.

If you have not yet received a Degree Certificate, this will be presented to you on stage in December.
