About Wellington Plus

Find out about the programme and its opportunities and how they can benefit you.

The Wellington Plus Programme is the University’s extracurricular service and leadership development programme. It connects you with your community, provides leadership opportunities, and develops your social responsibility and employability skills. The programme is self-directed and you can tailor it to suit your own schedule, studies, and interests.

The programme encourages you to get involved through volunteering and student support at the University, and service in the wider Wellington community. To enhance your learning further, you participate in leadership, skills, and career workshops, and reflect on your self-development.

There are two levels of achievement: Certificate and Award. Successful completion is acknowledged on your academic transcript and including it in your CV can help you stand out in a competitive job market.

Wellington Plus gives you the opportunity to :

  • give back to your community
  • connect with students and the community sector
  • engage in student leadership
  • gain new skills
  • broaden your thinking
  • prepare for future employment.

International recognition

In 2019 the Wellington Plus Programme won the 'Benefitting Society' category of the prestigious International Green Gown Awards, which are endorsed by the UN Environment. The Green Gown Awards recognise exceptional sustainability initiatives undertaken by university and colleges around the world. The judges were impressed by how students not only benefit society today but develop a mindset of social and environmental responsibility as they move into graduate employment.
