Domestic students

Registering with us means that Student Health will become your primary medical practice, and your general consultations at our clinics will be free.

Once registered, you can still attend any other general practice as a casual patient, so you'll still be able to see your family doctor at home during the holidays.

We recommend registering as soon as you can, before your first appointment. Getting this sorted early means that we'll have enough time to receive your medical records from your previous doctor and gain an understanding of your medical history before you arrive.

How to register

To register, fill out our enrolment form and email a scanned copy to mauriora@vuw.ac.nz along with a copy of your photo ID. Alternatively, if you do not have access to a scanner, you can take a photo of your enrolment form.

Make sure the photo is taken in a brightly lit area and the image is of high quality, so the contents can be read. The only picture file formats we can open are jpg/jpeg or png. You can also mail them to our postal address.

Acceptable forms of photo ID include:

• a copy of your student ID, driver’s license, or passport (for New Zealand citizens or residents)
• a copy of your passport and proof of your visa, such as a scanned copy of your Resident Visa, Work Visa/Permit (for non-New Zealand citizens or residents).

During the beginning of each trimester, we receive a large volume of enrolment forms to Student Health. We work through these as quickly as we can, but there may be a delay in response. Thank you for your understanding and we appreciate your patience.

International students

All international students studying at Victoria University of Wellington that currently live in New Zealand can access Student Health.

As an international student, you may have some or all of your medical costs covered by an insurance provider such as Studentsafe. If you're not sure whether or not this applies to you, contact Wellington University International for further information or ask our support team members when booking your next appointment

Some international students are eligible to register with Student Health for publicly funded healthcare. 
You're eligible to register if you hold one of the following:

• a NZ Development/Manaaki Scholarship (formerly NZAid)
• a Commonwealth Scholarship
• a resident visa, or permanent resident visa.

In some cases, a work visa may also make you eligible. Contact Student Health's main reception or Wellington University International to find out if this is an option for you.

If you are not eligible for publicly funded healthcare, you can still choose to have Student Health as your primary healthcare provider while you study by completing the following form.
