Exchange students can apply for on-campus dormitory housing or arrange off-campus accommodations.
The University of Hawaii at Hilo cannot guarantee housing. However, we will assist students in securing on-campus housing or off-campus housing near campus. Students can apply online for on-campus housing through the University of Hawai’i at Hilo Housing Office website. The application must be completed AFTER students have received their acceptance and a UH student ID number.

Payable Fees:
Activity Fee: $225 per semester (student life center, health center, student publications and activities)
Orientation: $50 (includes gift bag, informational sessions and special activities -- not required but recommended)
Insurance
All international exchange students need to have health insurance coverage while they are studying at UH Hilo. Visit the International Student Service website to see the requirements and options for health insurance. You can purchase insurance in your home country, although you will need to provide proof of insurance in English when you arrive. University of Hawaii student insurance can also be purchased online. The cost is approximately $1750 per semester. The actual rates will be determined a few months prior to the start of the school year. For more information view the HMSA website
A copy of your health insurance needs to be filed with the International Student Services upon arrival.

Course load
VUW students must enroll in at least 4 courses (12 credit hours) per semester.
First year courses are typically worth 3 credits. 3 credits = 15 VUW points.
Generally 100/200 level lower division courses transfer as Victoria 100 level and 300/400 level upper division courses transfer as 200/300 level.
