Profile

Tim is a Wellington-based economist with interests spanning macroeconomics, econometrics and quantitative methods. He has broad senior experience in the New Zealand public sector, having worked at the New Zealand Treasury where he was the Chief Economist for four years, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Bank for International Settlements.

Qualifications

BCA with First Class Honours in Economics from Victoria University of Wellington

BSc with First Class Honours in Biochemistry from the University of Auckland.

Research interests

Tim’s current research areas include the business practices that enable firms to be resilient and adaptable in the face of changing and disruptive environments, and the connection with broader productivity growth dynamics in the macroeconomy. He is also interested in causal inference methods and the use of large-scale administrative data to illuminate scientific and policy questions.
