School Well Represented at the International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences
The School of Geography Environment and Earth Sciences, and the Antarctic Research Centre, were well represented at the recent International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences (ISAES XI) held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 10-16th July.
This meeting is held once every four years and is an important meeting for the Antarctic Earth Science community. Over 500 delegates from 25 countries were present giving a total of 251 talks and 313 posters arranged in 11 different themes and 22 specialised sessions!
The group that went to the conference from Victoria University of Wellington presented a wide range of talks or poster presentations.
Professor Peter Barrett and Professor Tim Naish presented Plenary lectures.
Dr Cliff Atkins and Dr Warren Dickinson convened a special session on Cold-based glaciers. Dr Cliff Atkins also contributed to a panel discussion for early career polar scientists
Dr Andrew Mackintosh convened a session and presented a keynote talk on Ice sheet history.
Dr Rob McKay presented a keynote on Late Pliocene cooling.
Following the conference, several planning workshops such as ANDRILL were held.
