Profile

I have a PhD in Ecology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from the University of Canterbury. During and following my studies I worked for The Press, first as a breaking news journalist in Christchurch then as a sole charge reporter on the West Coast. During my time at The Press I wrote numerous features, science articles and a weekly science column.

I currently work part time teaching science communication in the Centre for Science in Society, and part time as a senior media advisor at the Science Media Centre where I am also editor of sciblogs.co.nz. I am interested in the role media plays as a popular source of science information and how we can resource journalists to cover science, alongside supporting researchers to feel confident talking to the media.
