Information

This prize was established by a private donor, via the University of Wellington Foundation in 2020, to recognise excellence in woodwind performance by postgraduate students at the New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington.

The award is made annually to a woodwind student (piccolo, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, or contra-bassoon) demonstrating excellence in woodwind performance and with career potential. The recipient will be nominated by the Head of Woodwind to the Scholarships Committee with final approval from the Director based on a final recital for current students or an audition for incoming students.

The recipient will be nominated by the Head of Woodwind to the Scholarships Committee with final approval from the Director based on a final recital for current students or an audition for incoming students. Where no suitable recipient is identified in a given year, the available funds can, at the discretion of the decision-makers, be rolled over to the next academic year.

Prize funds are to assist the student with a project undertaken during their studies, or equipment directly related to their woodwind studies.

Previous winners are eligible to receive the award on subsequent occasions if they are judged to meet the criteria for the award.

Recipients will be asked to write a letter of thanks to the donor within a month of receiving this award. A condition of the award is that the winner will perform in a concert, to which the donor will be invited.
