Eligibility

The prize is awarded annually to a student in Political Science or International Relations who has completed an essay or a thesis on an aspect of Pacific Islands' government, politics, and international relations and is considered worthy of the award.

Preference may be given to students of Pasifika descent.

Information

This prize was established in 2019, reflecting New Zealand's place in the Pacific and its ongoing relationship with its Pacific neighbours. The prize also reflects the Victoria University of Wellington Political Science and International Relations programme's long-standing interest in Pacific Islands' government, politics, and international relations.

The prize encourages excellence in the study of these topics and supports Pasifika students seeking to learn more about the government, politics, and international relations of Pacific Island countries.

• In any given year the prize may be shared (equally) between a maximum of two students.
• The prize is awarded on the recommendation of the head of the School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations in consultation with the academic staff and the head of programme in Political Science and International Relations.
• The names of the students awarded this prize will be inscribed on the Honours Board at the premises of the Political Science and International Relations Programme.
• Recipients are asked to write a letter of appreciation, which will be forwarded to the head of the School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations and the prize donors.
